The small backhoe is a versatile excavating piece of equipment used on many work sites. Also known as the digger, it consists of a digging bucket which attaches to a double-articulated arm system. The unit typically mounts onto a tractor or front loader. It can be of use both for farm-work and construction duties, depending on the circumstances.
Parts of the backhoe:
- Thumb
- Boom
- Dipper
This machine has 3 main parts, the first is known as ‘Thumb’ and consists of a metal bar hinged to the bucket. It holds onto the bucket just like a human thumb in order to pick up objects with ease. Moreover, some versions are designed to lean back against the backhoe arm when not in use.
Second, there’s the ‘boom’ part which is the arm section closest to vehicle. Typically, the boom is attached onto the vehicle via a special pivot known as the king post, this allows the arm to rotate left or right with ease and usually within a range of 180 to 200 degrees.
Thirdly, the ‘dipper or dipper-stick’ which is responsible for carrying the bucket.
Common uses of the small backhoe
This equipment is often used for various agriculture and construction site purposes in the Bolivar MO area.
Some uses include:
- Grading a road
- Digging trenches
- Snow plowing
- Uprooting of trees
- Pushing dirt
Grading a road
Since it consists of a plow placed on the opposite side from the bucket, by simply pushing that plow over a road or an even plane you can grade it and make it smoother during construction.
Digging trenches
The bucket found on one end of the backhoe is ideal for digging tasks, to use it you only need to stick its serrated teeth into the ground and start lifting up the dirt. In addition, you can even rotate the backhoe down a certain path to create a trench for piping.
Snow plowing
If your neighborhood road is packed with snow during winter, you can simply clear it using the small backhoe so that vehicles can move freely.
Uprooting of trees
You may want to uproot a tree for various reasons, such as creating a pathway for people/vehicles to pass, or some space for an upcoming construction project. No matter your intention, this equipment can help you uproot trees with minimal effort and in just a few minutes.
Pushing dirt
Almost every workstation in Bolivar MO has the need of having dirt pushed out of site. Usually, immediately after digging dirt piles up and you need to push it aside in order to continue with your job. A backhoe can be used to push this dirt.
Nowadays, with the introduction of hydraulic-powered fixtures such as the grapple, tiltrotator and breaker, this equipment can be used for various other applications apart from those mentioned above. For instance, the rapid coupler or quick-attach mounting systems can significantly increase the backhoe’s utilization on the work site.
Backhoe Serves Multiple Purposes
Backhoes are general-purpose tools that can be found on many job sites around Bolivar MO, both in agriculture and construction work. Moreover, sometimes the backhoe arm can work like a mini-crane by moving the lift item from the support link system behind the scoop.
